Steve Murray of Panorama Paydirt in Earlysville, Virginia will be our guest speaker on building great compost. He has been making compost since 1997 on a large commercial scale. Steve will touch on many composting topics as well as give recipes for successfully producing high quality compost and yes there is a science to it.
Susan Viemeister will then lead the group outside for her talk on Putting Your Garden to Bed. Questions like which plants get cut back and how short? What plants are best left for the birds and hibernating insects? Is it better to fertilize in the spring or fall? These questions and others will be addressed as we explore the rounds of Pharsalia. Susan will demonstrate pruning techniques and tips for clean up within the diverse beds of perennials, annuals and shrubs.
Susan is a landscape designer and artist who works in the Nelson and Albemarle County areas. We know her well because she helped design or renovate many of the plantings throughout Pharsalia during her time here as a gardener and designer.
A wonderful catered lunch is included in the fee for $85.00.
